BIDs across the country have demonstrated that investment in events and culture convert into spend, dwell time and improved brand recognition. Building on our burgeoning reputation for quality, quirky and captivating events that deliver real spend in the local area, St Albans BID will curate a range of events in 2018/19 to drive footfall and highlight the expertise and cultural capital hidden in plain sight in the City Centre.

Taste the High Life at Christopher Place

Christopher Place St Albans 

An opportunity for you to explore and enjoy Christopher Place as you’ve never seen them before! Swanvesta SocialClub will be performing 7.30-9.30, Tomoka Spirits Boutique will be hosting bars offering cocktails from around the world and shops, restaurants and boutiques will be showcasing their new season specialities! Get ready to jump on board, grab your sunglasses and taste the high life!

The Luxury Wedding Show will host a platform for unique suppliers of wedding essentials from St Albans and beyond to showcase their work on George Street: the site independent boutique shopping and eating in a historic setting. St Albans BID is proud to be the headline sponsor of this event, facilitating our bridal businesses from the BID area to showcase at the event.

Throughout St Albans

On Sunday 16 September, the second weekend of Heritage Open Days, St Albans will be turning back in time. Each street will be themed to a different era with a variety of activities for the public to enjoy.
Historic vehicles, cars, motorbikes, scooters and com​mercial vehicles will line the streets and businesses of all types, shops, restaurants, banks and public houses will all be joining in the fun by creating their own retro feel. Holywell Hill will be themed WW1 to 1920s, St Peter’s Street WW2 and 1940s, George Street 1950s and 1960s and Catherine Street 1970s and 1980s.
Music, food and fashion will all play their part in the festival.

Free activities on the day include: 

1910s/20s: Semaphore workshop with the Scouts, Samuel Ryder drop in at Clarion Collection

1940s: Jive Swing performances and workshops outside M&S, WW2 reenactors with Museum + Gallery and classic cars

1950s/60s: Science workshop on George Street, Ukulele performance and vintage cocktails, food and activities alongside classic cars

1970s/80s: Retro live music stage on Catherine Street featuring glam, rock and disco, classic cars, retro food and activities, face painting and trail sheets to answer questions around the city. Completed trail sheets will be entered into a prize draw to win a £50 St Albans Gift Card.  T’s & C’s prize draw

St Albans Museum + Gallery

An all new event this year with 10 BID fashion retailers on a bespoke catwalk in the newly restored Assembly Rooms, showcasing party and festive looks from the AW18/19 collections. Tickets are available to buy for the 7pm and 8.15 shows but spaces are limited so book soon.

Advent Trail

December 2018

Twenty four businesses will be selected to take part in St Albans City Centre’s first Advent Trail. Shops, bars, businesses and restaurants will transform their window displays to spread festive cheer, with one unveiling every day throughout December. This initiative will encourage people to visit all parts of the City and there’s an element of competition as well, as the public’s choice of Best Dressed Window will win a marketing and advertising package worth over £1,000.
